A former UK Branch Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), Mr Michael Ansah, has stated that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia remains the only person capable of leading the party back to power.
Mr Ansah made the assertion during a political discussion programme on Bethel Radio/TV, hosted by Thomas Oheneba Kwame Boakye, as part of ongoing engagements on the NPP’s presidential primaries.
According to him, the NPP is at a critical stage following its period in opposition and must make a strategic and forward-looking decision in selecting its next flagbearer. He stressed that the party requires a leader with national appeal, credibility, and a deep understanding of Ghana’s evolving governance challenges.
“Dr Bawumia remains the only person who can win power for the NPP,” Mr Ansah stated. “He has been tested, understands governance, and has ideas that resonate with the Ghanaian people, especially the youth and floating voters.”
He highlighted Dr Bawumia’s experience at the highest levels of government, his involvement in key economic and digital transformation initiatives, and his ability to clearly articulate policy positions both locally and internationally. According to Mr Ansah, these qualities distinguish Dr Bawumia from other aspirants within the party.
Mr Ansah also urged supporters of all aspirants to conduct themselves with discipline and restraint, warning that internal divisions and personal attacks could weaken the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“After the primaries, the NPP must unite quickly. What matters most is winning back the trust of Ghanaians and returning the party to power,” he added.
The discussion forms part of Bethel Radio/TV’s ongoing series on the NPP Presidential Primaries, which provides a platform for party elders, communicators, grassroots members, and diaspora supporters to share their views on the party’s future direction.
Bethel Radio/TV says it continues to promote issue-based political dialogue and constructive engagement as the NPP prepares for its crucial internal elections.
