Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has intensified calls for unity within the party as it positions itself to recapture power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to party executives in the Kwahu area of the Eastern Region on Friday, Wontumi stressed the need for the NPP to consolidate its base and bring all supporters on board despite efforts already made by the national leadership to heal divisions after the last presidential election.
He argued that the party stands a strong chance of returning to power, citing what he described as the NDC’s poor management of the economy. According to him, victory in 2028 will depend on hard work, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose among party members.
Wontumi also presented himself as a unifying figure capable of steering the party towards electoral success, pledging to lead efforts to restore cohesion and drive the NPP’s campaign.
“I present myself as someone you can trust to unite the party and work towards victory for the NPP and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in 2028,” he said.
Addressing concerns about his academic qualifications, Wontumi dismissed the criticisms, questioning why such issues were not raised when he played a key role in delivering significant votes for the party in the Ashanti Region.
“Why was my certificate not an issue when I was delivering massive votes for the party? Why the sudden focus on my academic background?” he asked.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman is on a three-day tour of the Eastern Region as part of his nationwide campaign to build support for his bid for the NPP’s national chairmanship.
