Gov’t Strengthening Business Environment To Drive Green Industrial Growth — Trade Minister

The Minister for Trade and Agribusiness, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s business environment to support sustainable industrial development and attract environmentally responsible investments.

According to her, the government is working to create a policy and regulatory framework that encourages industries to adopt greener production methods while expanding Ghana’s manufacturing capacity.

Speaking at an event to mark a major investment in sustainable cement production, the Minister said Ghana’s climate commitments require practical action from both government and the private sector.

“Ghana’s commitment to climate action is not merely diplomatic language at international conferences. It is a lived obligation our industries must translate into practice,” she stated.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare explained that under the Paris Agreement, Ghana has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 64 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent by 2030, stressing that achieving the target will depend largely on private sector participation.

“That ambitious target demands active private sector participation, not government policy alone,” she emphasised.

She noted that the latest investment in green cement technology demonstrates how industry players can contribute to reducing emissions while supporting the country’s industrial growth agenda.

“Today’s investment is precisely that partnership in action,” she added.

The Minister further revealed that the Ministry of Trade and Agribusiness is implementing reforms aimed at making Ghana the most competitive manufacturing destination in West Africa.

“My ministry is committed to making Ghana the most competitive manufacturing destination in West Africa,” she said.

She explained that government is streamlining investment approval processes and strengthening the role of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) to better facilitate both local and foreign investors.

“We are working to streamline investment approvals, strengthen the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre’s facilitation role, and ensure our regulatory environment rewards long-term commitment over short-term extraction,” the Minister noted.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare emphasised that creating an enabling business environment remains a key priority of the government as it seeks to drive industrial expansion and economic transformation.

“An enabling business environment is not a slogan in this administration. It is a deliverable, and we intend to deliver it,” she stressed.

She called on industry players to continue partnering with government in promoting innovation, sustainable production, and green industrial development across key sectors of the economy.
