Gov’t Ready to Facilitate Overseas Treatment for Injured Recruitment Stampede Victim – Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that the government is prepared to facilitate overseas medical treatment for Sandra Baafi Boateng if specialists recommend it.

Mr Akandoh made this known while addressing Parliament on Monday, March 9, 2026, as he provided an update on the condition of Ms Baafi Boateng, who was seriously injured during a stampede at a Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise.

He assured Members of Parliament that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring her treatment and recovery to ensure she receives the best possible medical care.

“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Ms Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the requisite specialist care and that every necessary step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” the Minister stated.

According to him, Ms Baafi Boateng sustained severe injuries during the recruitment exercise held on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

She was initially admitted to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she received inpatient care under specialist supervision. The government, he said, has been covering all medical expenses to ease the financial burden on her family.

Mr Akandoh further disclosed that on February 26, 2026, Ms Baafi Boateng was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra, where she is currently receiving further treatment from a multidisciplinary team of specialists.

Her ongoing treatment programme includes rehabilitation and social support services aimed at improving her recovery.

The Health Minister stressed that the government is evaluating all available medical options, both within Ghana and abroad, to ensure that Ms Baafi Boateng receives the most appropriate care.
