The government has begun disbursing the first and second payment cycles of the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme for 2026, with eligible beneficiary households receiving the two cycles together.
The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the payments commenced on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a national reassessment of LEAP beneficiary households.
She said about 450,000 eligible households are being retained or enrolled under the programme’s expanded ceiling, with beneficiaries receiving payments based on their household composition and vulnerability status.
Under the new rates, households with one or two eligible members and a vulnerable member will receive GH¢392 per payment cycle, while those without a vulnerable member will receive GH¢380.
Households with three to four eligible members and a vulnerable member will receive GH¢474, compared with GH¢452 for those without a vulnerable member.
For households with five or more eligible members, those with a vulnerable member will receive GH¢630, while households without a vulnerable member will receive GH¢594.
Dr Lartey explained that because the first and second payment cycles are being paid together, eligible households will receive twice the applicable bi-monthly amount.
She urged the media to help communicate the payment arrangements to beneficiaries and manage expectations, particularly regarding enrolment and biometric verification.
The Minister assured eligible persons who have been enumerated or assessed but are yet to have their biometrics taken not to panic, saying the process had been designed to onboard all eligible households by the end of 2026 with their full entitlements.
She said the expansion of the LEAP programme followed a comprehensive reassessment of 350,000 beneficiary households using data from the Ghana National Household Registry.
According to her, the programme’s ceiling has now increased from 350,000 to 450,000 households, while the bi-monthly grant has risen from an average of GH¢334 in 2024 to GH¢424 in 2025 and GH¢569 in 2026.
Dr Lartey said the new grant rates were being protected through an indexation mechanism intended to prevent inflation from eroding the value of the support.

The Minister disclosed these details during the Government Accountability Series, where she outlined progress made by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in social protection, disability inclusion, child protection and the fight against violence and exploitation.
