From TESCON to NPP UK Leadership: The Journey of Lawyer Charles Asmah

Lawyer Charles Asmah, popularly known as “Lawyer Oboanipa,” has emerged as one of the leading figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK, with a political journey spanning student activism, grassroots mobilisation, and key leadership roles in the party’s diaspora branch.

A qualified lawyer in the United Kingdom, accounting professional, lecturer, and seasoned party administrator, Charles Asmah is currently seeking election as the 1st Vice Chairman of NPP UK, bringing to the race years of experience in governance, finance, and organisational leadership.

His political journey began at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where he became an active member of the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), the student wing of the NPP. During his time at the university, he developed a strong passion for grassroots politics, youth empowerment, and public service, laying the foundation for his future leadership within the party.

After relocating to the United Kingdom, Asmah continued his service by joining the Young Patriots, where he served as Treasurer and played a key role in mobilising resources to support the group’s activities.

His dedication and commitment earned him election as Deputy Treasurer of NPP UK in 2014. He later served as Acting Treasurer in 2017 before members elected him Substantive Treasurer in 2018, a position he continues to hold.

As Treasurer, Lawyer Asmah has been credited with strengthening the branch’s financial administration while promoting transparency and accountability. He has also been an active member of the Constituency Adoption Programme since 2018 and has served on the Branch Fundraising Committee since 2014, helping mobilise financial support and strengthen the party’s grassroots structures ahead of elections.

Beyond his work in the United Kingdom, Asmah has remained actively involved in political and development activities in his home constituency of Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese. He has also served as a party communicator in both Ghana and the UK, advocating for the NPP’s policies and engaging members on national issues.

Professionally, Charles Asmah has over a decade of experience in legal practice, academia, finance, and public affairs. His multidisciplinary background has equipped him with expertise in leadership, governance, strategic planning, and organisational management.

Widely respected for his humility, generosity, and commitment to helping others, he is affectionately known as “Lawyer Oboanipa,” a nickname that reflects his reputation for selfless service.

As he seeks the mandate to serve as 1st Vice Chairman of NPP UK, Lawyer Charles Asmah is campaigning on a seven-point agenda focused on policy innovation, institutional strengthening, youth empowerment, diaspora collaboration, member development, and improved party administration, with the ultimate goal of positioning the NPP UK branch to contribute effectively towards the party’s victory in the 2028 general elections.
