Newly elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abanga Fusaini Yakubu, has ruled out any possibility of switching to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or sharing the NPP’s strategies with his twin brother, Hassan Abanga, who is an NDC Vice Chairman.
He said the political differences within his family have never affected his loyalty to the NPP, noting that his mother is an NPP member while his father and twin brother belong to the NDC.
Speaking in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, Mr Abanga said the family has agreed to respect one another’s political affiliations and avoid political discussions during family gatherings to prevent disagreements.
“This is not possible. If somebody should come and tell you I will expose my political strategies and ideas to the NDC, it doesn’t make sense. I love the NPP, so whoever knows me can testify to my loyalty to the New Patriotic Party,” he said.
He said he had served the NPP wholeheartedly since 2014 and remained committed to the party.
“I’ve spent the whole of 2014 to date serving the New Patriotic Party, wholeheartedly,” he said.
Asked whether his relationship with his twin brother could influence him to switch to the NDC, he said there was no possibility of that happening.
“Excuse my words, not God, if you want me to use that word. Nobody. It’s NPP and NPP. And that is the NPP that I believe in,” he said.
He added that he believed in the NPP brand and was determined to contribute to its growth.
“Obia b3didi’ brand is not a small brand. It’s a very big brand; if I’m able to manage it well, one day the party people will lift me,” he said.
Mr Abanga emerged victorious in the NPP’s national executive elections held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
He polled 1,550 votes to defeat five other aspirants: Clement Opoku Gyamfi, who secured 631; Michael Osei Boateng, 78; Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, 44; Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, 46; and Alfred Kumi Ababio, 25.
