A leading contender for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hon. John Boadu, has paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Assin Fosu, Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, to seek royal blessings ahead of his nationwide campaign tour.
The visit, steeped in tradition, highlights Mr. Boadu’s effort to formally inform his traditional authority before embarking on political engagements across the country.
Addressing the Omanhene and his council, Mr. Boadu underscored the importance of respecting custom and acknowledging his roots.
“Nana, it would be a great disrespect to hear on radio and television that your own grandson is traversing regions and entering various palaces without first coming here to seek your blessings. I am here to formally inform you of my decision to contest for the National Chairmanship of our great party when nominations are opened, and to ask for your guidance and prayers as I begin this journey,” he said.
He noted that his rise through the ranks of the party—from the polling station level to the national stage—has equipped him with the experience needed to reposition the NPP at what he described as a critical moment.
Mr. Boadu added that the party’s investment in his development places a responsibility on him to serve with “competence, loyalty, and vision.”
The Paramount Chief, Okumanini Baffour Asare Kyeahene II, together with the Queen Mother, Nana Afranse IV, and sub-chiefs, welcomed the delegation and commended Mr. Boadu for his humility and respect for tradition.
“John, you are a true son of the soil. What you have done today is honorable, and we shall remember you in our prayers as you take this bold step. Our people are known for courage and excellence; go higher,” the Omanhene stated.
He further advised the aspiring chairman to remain focused and not be distracted by criticism, expressing confidence in his prospects.
The delegatio n included several party figures, among them former GIHOC Managing Director Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Central Regional Secretary Richard Takyi Mensah, Central Regional Women’s Organizer Charlotte Adwoa Antwi, Assin Central Constituency Chairman Attakora Amaniampong, and NPP UK Branch Chairman Kingsley Adumattah Agyapong, among others.
The visit marks the beginning of Mr. Boadu’s broader national engagement, anchored on themes of unity, experience, and respect for tradition.
