Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured Ghanaians that the full budget for Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be made public ahead of the tournament.
The Black Stars are set to represent Ghana at the global showpiece for the fifth time, following previous appearances beginning with their historic debut at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, the Minister emphasized government’s commitment to transparency, stressing that no details regarding the World Cup expenditure will be concealed from the public.
“We will make the World Cup budget public; nothing will be hidden. The government does not intend to profit from this. This is about giving Ghana what it deserves,” he stated.
Mr. Adams further noted that the amount of funding mobilized will influence the level of fan participation and support the team will receive at the tournament.
“The funds we raise will determine the number of fans we can take to the World Cup,” he added.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L, where the Black Stars will face Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana will begin their campaign with the following fixtures:
June 17: Ghana vs Panama – BMO Field, Toronto (7:00 PM ET)
June 23: England vs Ghana – Boston Stadium (4:00 PM ET)
June 27: Croatia vs Ghana – Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia (5:00 PM ET)
The Black Stars will be aiming to make a strong impact and possibly surpass their historic quarterfinal finish at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
