The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on candidates who were unsuccessful in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary to match their concession statements with actions that promote unity and national cohesion.
The call followed the NPP’s peaceful presidential candidate primary, which elected former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer for the December 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued in Accra on Saturday, February 1, 2026, and signed by its National Chairman, Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah, the NDC congratulated the NPP for organizing a violence-free internal election, describing it as a positive step in strengthening Ghana’s democratic credentials.
The party also commended the Ghana Police Service for what it described as a professional and effective security operation that ensured calm and order throughout the process nationwide.
According to the NDC, the peaceful conduct of the primary underscores the importance of cooperation among political parties in the collective effort to deepen Ghana’s democracy.
“We welcome the collaboration and participation of the NPP and all other political parties in our collective national quest to strengthen and deepen our democracy,” the statement noted.
The NDC further observed that while concession messages by defeated candidates were commendable, they must translate into concrete actions that foster internal unity within the NPP and contribute to national stability.
Dr. Bawumia’s victory officially positions him as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections, paving the way for heightened political engagement as parties prepare for the polls.
