The Ghana Police Service has intercepted a truck loaded with more than 3,000 slabs of substances suspected to be narcotics in the Greater Accra Region, in what officials describe as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking.
Two men have also been arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with GH¢150,000 in connection with the case.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 18, the Tema Regional Police Command said the operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, following intelligence gathered by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit.
According to the statement, “on 15th February 2026 at about 0010 hours, an intelligence-led operation by officers of the Regional Patrols Unit led to the interception of a Sinotruck Tipper Truck, registration number GN 993-14, at Sege Akpla Manya in the Greater Accra Region.”
Police said the truck was loaded with fertiliser sacks which concealed 3,009 slabs of plant material suspected to be cannabis.
“Upon sighting the Police, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled,” the statement said.

The vehicle and its contents have since been impounded at the Tema Regional Police Headquarters to assist with investigations. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the driver and establish the ownership of the truck.
In a related development, two suspects — Victor Asigbey, 40, and Peter Asigbey, 35 — were arrested on Sunday, February 16, at about 7:10 p.m. at the Regional CID Office in Tema.
Police said the suspects allegedly offered GH¢150,000 in cash to officers handling the case “in an attempt to unlawfully influence officers to release the vehicle and the suspected narcotic substances.”
The money has been retrieved and secured as evidence.
The two suspects remain in police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned before court on February 18, 2026.
The Tema Regional Police Command assured the public of its commitment to tackling drug-related crimes and upholding integrity within the service.
It said it remains dedicated to “combating narcotic-related offences and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in the discharge of its duties.”
