Multiple vehicles were burnt in a devastating fire following a fuel tanker explosion on the Nsawam-Accra highway in the early hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026.
Preliminary reports indicate that the explosion was triggered by a collision involving the tanker. The impact reportedly caused the tanker to burst into flames, setting nearby vehicles ablaze.
Thick black smoke billowed into the sky, drawing attention and causing panic among motorists and residents in nearby communities along the busy stretch.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the emergency and are working to contain the blaze to prevent it from spreading to other vehicles and surrounding properties. The affected area has been cordoned off as firefighting efforts continue.
Fortunately, no casualties have been recorded so far. However, emergency teams are still assessing the situation and combing the scene to ensure no victims are trapped.
The incident has led to significant traffic congestion along the Nsawam-Accra highway, one of the busiest routes linking the Eastern Region to Accra.
Motorists are being advised to exercise extreme caution when approaching the area and to consider alternative routes while firefighting and recovery operations are underway. Police officers are also on site, directing traffic and ensuring the safety of road users.
