The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary is proceeding peacefully across the country, with party elections committee chairman Joseph Osei Owusu urging all aspirants and supporters to unite behind the eventual winner.
Speaking at a polling centre on Saturday, January 31, Mr. Osei Owusu said: “My advice to all the aspirants is that whoever wins, it is the party that has won. So all of us will give the support that we have to whoever wins.”
He described the voting process as transparent, secure, and calm, expressing confidence that the exercise would be free of disputes.
Over 211,000 delegates are expected to vote at more than 300 polling centres nationwide. The contest features five aspirants: former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Ministers Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
Security has been tightened nationwide to ensure a credible exercise. The outcome of the primaries will determine the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election and influence the party’s direction after its 2024 defeat.
