Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has dismissed claims circulating on social media that he had been arrested or detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) over alleged involvement in the sale of foreign scholarships.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 5, 2026, Mr. Ofosu Nkansah described the reports as “false and misleading,” insisting that he was never picked up or detained by the intelligence agency.
“My attention has been drawn to a publication by one Dzifa Gunu on Facebook, alleging that I have been picked up by the NIB to substantiate allegations of sale of foreign scholarships and that I am currently in the grips of the NIB after allegedly refusing an invitation from them,” he stated.
“I wish to state categorically that these claims are false and misleading. At no point in time was I ‘picked up’ by the NIB as alleged,” he added.
According to Mr. Ofosu Nkansah, the development follows a directive issued on February 3, 2026, by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, requesting the NIB to investigate an allegation reportedly made by him during a discussion on Sompa Radio 106.5. The allegation suggested that an individual had allegedly paid money to secure a scholarship to study abroad.
He explained that he was formally invited by the NIB to assist with investigations and that he honoured the invitation voluntarily.
“Pursuant to the directive, I was invited by the NIB for a meeting at 10:00 a.m. on 5th February 2026 to assist with ongoing investigations. I voluntarily presented myself at the offices of the NIB in the company of my legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah Esq., MP for Manhyia South, to assist with the investigation,” he noted.
Mr. Ofosu Nkansah further stated that he fully cooperated with investigators and clarified that no charges were brought against him.
“I fully cooperated with the officers and provided the necessary assistance. I further confirm that at the conclusion of the engagement, I was not charged with any offence as I was only invited to assist with the ongoing investigations,” he said.
He also urged the public and the media to disregard the reports and avoid spreading misinformation.
“Accordingly, I urge the public and media outlets to disregard the false publication and refrain from circulating same or any other misinformation,” he appealed.
