GRA Interdicts Five Customs Officers Over Transit Cargo Irregularities

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has interdicted five officers of its Customs Division with immediate effect following suspected breaches of transit procedures involving a cargo shipment declared for Niger.

The decision, announced in a press release issued on February 24, 2026, comes after preliminary findings from an enforcement operation conducted on February 18, 2026. The operation targeted a consignment of transit cargo that was declared for onward movement to Niger but reportedly revealed discrepancies in documentation and non-compliance with established transit protocols.

According to the Authority, the interdictions are pending the outcome of a comprehensive internal investigation aimed at establishing the full facts of the case.

“Initial assessments indicate potential procedural breaches requiring further independent and comprehensive examination,” the statement said.

The GRA noted that the investigation would determine the extent of any individual involvement and identify any departures from established Customs procedures. Management further indicated that additional officers may be invited to assist with the probe if necessary.

Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate administrative actions will be taken in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, the Authority added.

The GRA assured stakeholders and the general public that the move reflects its commitment to safeguarding national revenue and strengthening compliance within the Customs Division.

“This action underscores our commitment to protect national revenue, support the growth of local industries, and promote overall economic development,” the Authority stated.

The GRA also reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that revenue collection and enforcement processes are carried out with the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.

The interdiction of the officers forms part of ongoing efforts by the Authority to tighten oversight and enhance transparency within the country’s revenue mobilization system.
