Ghana is Bigger Than Any Party” – Dr. Bawumia Calls for Unity at National Thanksgiving Service

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on all Ghanaians and party members to put aside personal grudges and work together for the nation’s progress, emphasizing that “Ghana is bigger than any political party.”

Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service held on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia reflected on the recently concluded party primaries and the peaceful election of the party’s flagbearer. He expressed gratitude to God for guiding the party through what he described as a “grueling election cycle” and praised church leaders for their support and prayers.

“Today’s Thanksgiving service is not about celebrating personal ambition,” Dr. Bawumia told the congregation. “It is a moment to reflect, pray, and recommit ourselves to a higher cause — the cause of building a nation that is truly great and strong. Ghana is bigger than any party, and our democracy must never be reduced to vengeance.”

Dr. Bawumia also urged party members to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation. “Let us forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during this election cycle. Healing will not come from silence; it will come from speaking up about what binds us together and working towards it as a family,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of service and discipline, he reminded attendees that victory in 2028 will not be gifted but must be earned “constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose.” He pledged that the party would embark on a nationwide thank-you tour to recognize the efforts of its members and continue reorganizing its structures to better serve Ghanaians.

“Let us put behind personal grudges, internal suspicions, and factional lines. Let us rebuild trust among ourselves. Let us return to the values that built this party — service, competence, respect for institutions, and belief in the Ghanaian people,” Dr. Bawumia said.

He concluded his address with a prayer for the nation: “May God heal our party. May God heal our nation. May God grant us the wisdom and strength to serve Ghana with integrity, courage, and love.”

The service, attended by party members, clergy, and supporters, marked a moment of reflection, thanksgiving, and recommitment to unity ahead of the 2028 elections.
