A former Director for Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the Former President, Mr. Akwasi Awua Ababio, has thrown his weight behind Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for this Saturday.
Speaking in an interview on Bethel Radio/TV, hosted by Thomas Oheneba Boakye, Mr. Ababio described Dr. Bawumia as the most consistent and genuinely engaged candidate among the five aspirants contesting the NPP flagbearership.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia has maintained a long-standing and authentic relationship with the party’s diaspora community, distinguishing him from the other contenders. He revealed that the Vice President is himself a registered member of NPP UK, having formally joined the party during his stay in the United Kingdom—an indication, he said, of Dr. Bawumia’s deep-rooted connection to the diaspora.
Mr. Ababio explained that this sustained engagement has earned Dr. Bawumia significant goodwill among diaspora members, many of whom feel recognised, respected, and meaningfully included in national political discourse.
Based on these considerations, the former Diaspora Director called on all diaspora members and NPP UK delegates to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and vote massively for him in the upcoming primaries.
He further described the Vice President as humble, disciplined, committed, and hardworking, stressing that beyond the internal party contest, Dr. Bawumia is the only aspirant he firmly believes can lead the NPP to victory in the next general election.
“Beyond his humility and work ethic, Dr. Bawumia has the national appeal, credibility, and political capital needed to return the party to government,” Mr. Ababio emphasised.
His comments add to growing expressions of support from members of the Ghanaian diaspora as the NPP prepares for a crucial internal election that will shape the party’s future direction.
