Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Birmingham Chapter, Prince Kwadwo Osei, popularly known as One in Town, has described former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s strongest candidate to lead the party back to power in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in his personal capacity, Prince Kwadwo Osei said his support for Dr. Bawumia is rooted in conviction, experience, and a careful assessment of the party’s political journey over the years.
“I bring this message not as a collective decision, but on my own behalf, to declare my unflinching support for the candidature of His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
According to him, the NPP has a consistent tradition of standing by leaders it believes in, noting that former Presidents J.A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo were both given second chances to lead the party and the nation.
“As a party, we believed in President Kufuor and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and gave them the opportunity to return. I think it is only fair that we do the same for His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.
Touching on the outcome of the 2024 elections, the NPP Birmingham Chairman argued that it would be unfair to lay blame on Dr. Bawumia or call for his replacement.
“Looking at all the issues surrounding the 2024 elections, it would be very disingenuous for us to think that Dr. Bawumia must be replaced. Inasmuch as other candidates may be fit, I strongly believe Dr. Bawumia supersedes all others by every fair measure needed to lead the NPP,” Prince Kwadwo Osei emphasized.
He further highlighted the core values of the NPP, describing the party as one that transcends religion, ethnicity, and geographical boundaries.
“The NPP is a tradition that believes in inclusivity and diversity. It transcends religion and boundaries, and Dr. Bawumia has consistently exemplified the ‘I can do’ spirit since he came into the limelight of the party,” he added.
Prince Kwadwo Osei also appealed directly to delegates, particularly those within the United Kingdom, to rally behind Dr. Bawumia in the party’s upcoming internal processes.
“I appeal to all delegates, especially those in Birmingham and across the UK, to once again trust Dr. Bawumia with their votes. The possibility train has not grounded, and it must not be grounded,” he urged.
He concluded by calling for unity and forward-looking leadership within the party.
“We must move forward, not backward. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia represents our destiny, and I am confident he will deliver,” he concluded.
