The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Dwamena, has attributed the low voter turnout in the Ayawaso East by-election to what he describes as growing public disappointment in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking to the media during the by-election in Accra, Dr. Dwamena said many constituents chose to stay away from the polls due to unfulfilled campaign promises by the John Mahama-led administration.
According to him, one of the key promises that influenced voters—particularly women—was the establishment of a Women’s Bank to provide financial support for female entrepreneurs.
He argued that the failure to implement such policies has left many Ghanaians feeling betrayed.

“The NDC promised the people the world, but they’ve seen that it was all false promises, and they’re suffering under this government. When you make commitments like establishing a Women’s Bank to support Ghanaian women and fail to deliver, people become disillusioned. That is what we are seeing reflected in the low turnout.”
Dr. Dwamena, however, commended the Ghana Police Service and the Electoral Commission for ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process. He described their professionalism as commendable and a benchmark for future elections.
He expressed satisfaction with the overall conduct of the by-election, noting that voting had proceeded smoothly without major incidents at the time of his interaction with the media.
