The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved revised guidelines governing its ongoing internal elections, following challenges encountered during the registration and electoral processes.
The National Executive Committee (NEC), acting on behalf of the National Council under Article 10(4)(1) of the party’s constitution, adopted the changes at an emergency meeting held on April 8, 2026, at the party’s headquarters.
The revisions affect key aspects of polling station, electoral area, chapter, and branch-level elections, with the party aiming to improve transparency, inclusiveness, and efficiency.
Under the updated polling station guidelines, elections must be suspended in disputed stations—particularly where members, including those who registered online, are denied access to the membership register. Such cases are to be referred to the Regional Steering Committee through the Constituency Executive Committee.
The party has also capped the number of polling station executive elections per committee at 25, while clarifying eligibility rules. In cluster polling stations, members may contest in any station within the cluster if they reside in the relevant electoral area. Eligibility generally requires residence within the electoral area and participation in voting at the polling station.
At the electoral area level, committees are limited to conducting up to 10 elections. Polling station executives seeking to contest must resign their positions before filing nominations.
For chapter and branch elections, the party has introduced flexible voting options, allowing elections to be conducted either in person or via the official NPP e-voting platform. Candidates at both levels must be active party members for at least two years.
The NPP also aligned the structure of branch and chapter executives with those at higher levels. Positions to be contested include chairperson, vice chairpersons, secretary, organiser, treasurer, women’s organiser, youth organiser, Nasara organiser, and communications officer, among others. Additional roles will be filled through appointments by elected executives.
Meanwhile, the NEC has set up an ad hoc committee chaired by former national chairman Peter Mac Manu to develop a comprehensive manual outlining the roles and responsibilities of party officers across all levels.
Other members of the committee include Osei Bonsu Amoah, Henry Nana Boakye, Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah, Anthony Namoo, Haruna Mohammed, Justina Marigold Assan, Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, and Joana Addah.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party urged all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the revised guidelines and comply strictly with them.
The NPP said the changes are intended to strengthen internal democracy and ensure a smooth, credible, and inclusive electoral process nationwide.
