The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the government of hypocrisy over its stance on sole sourcing, alleging that the administration has abandoned its previous position and is now heavily relying on the practice.
Speaking during the 31st Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 9th Parliament, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said both President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had consistently criticised sole sourcing while in opposition, but are now adopting it in office.
“The president spoke about sole sourcing at the manifesto launch and in State of the Nation Addresses, but today they are the apostles of sole sourcing,” he stated on the floor of Parliament.
He further alleged instances of nepotism in government procurement, citing a GH¢11 million contract which he claimed is linked to a Deputy Chief of Staff. According to him, such developments undermine transparency and accountability in public administration.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin also revisited the NDC’s campaign promises, accusing the government of failing to live up to commitments made to Ghanaians.
On the cocoa sector, the Effutu MP stressed that government has an obligation to pay cocoa farmers, insisting that payments must be honoured under all circumstances.
He also criticised the mid-season reduction in the cocoa producer price, describing the decision as “unjust” and detrimental to farmers.
