“We Cannot Win Without the 44%” – Sammy Crabbe Urges NPP Reconciliation Ahead of 2028
Former Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has called on party members to reconcile and unite behind the party’s presidential candidate, stressing that the support of all delegates, including those who backed other aspirants, is essential for victory in the 2028 elections.
Speaking to members in London on the need for party unity, Mr. Crabbe described claims that the NPP cannot win the next election as “dangerous” and warned that internal divisions could signal unpreparedness to Ghanaians.
“It’s not possible for us to win without the 44 percent. It is simply not possible. It even signals to Ghanaians that we are not ready,” he said.
He emphasized that the 44 percent of party delegates who supported other candidates during the internal primaries remain a crucial segment whose backing must be secured.
“We have a candidate, and we need to reconcile behind that candidate. When people start saying this group belongs here and that group belongs there, they are taking us back to where we were. Those who do that actually weaken the party,” Mr. Crabbe added.
The former party official also highlighted the scale of the internal campaigns, noting that significant financial resources were invested in the primaries.
“People from one of the campaigns estimated that the candidates together spent around 30 million dollars when they calculated the money that went into mobilization. At the end of the day, somebody has followed the constitution of the NPP,” he said.
Mr. Crabbe urged all party faithful to put aside differences and work together, saying unity and cohesion are key to restoring public confidence in the NPP and ensuring success in 2028.
“We must reconcile and show Ghanaians that it doesn’t really matter which camp you were in. What matters now is the future of the NPP,” he concluded.
