Former Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Crabbe, has cautioned political supporters to be careful about the level of loyalty they show to politicians, warning that many leaders often forget the people who supported them after attaining power.
Speaking at a gathering, Mr. Crabbe noted that political followers frequently invest their time, energy, and resources into helping politicians win elections, only to be sidelined once those leaders assume office.
“You can follow somebody today and tomorrow that person can turn his or her back on you. You must be very careful,” he stated.
According to him, some supporters go to great lengths during election campaigns, believing their commitment will be recognized later. However, he said the reality is often different once the politician secures power.
“You do anything for the person and the person will get there. You call the person and the person will never pick the call,” Mr. Crabbe said.
He emphasized the need for citizens to remain politically conscious and to ensure their support for political leaders is guided by principles rather than personal expectations.
Mr. Crabbe also encouraged party supporters to understand the broader dynamics of Ghana’s political landscape, including the influence of regional strongholds in shaping electoral outcomes.
“But I’m just hoping that you and I will agree that as we move forward we must understand the realities of our politics,” he added.
The former NPP executive concluded his remarks by urging political activists and supporters to stay committed to national development and democratic values rather than individual political figures.
“I will end here because my senior brother is also here and he has to speak,” he said.
