Foreign Affairs Ministry Denies Approving DVLA Services Abroad

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed claims circulating in the media that it has approved a move for staff of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel abroad to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaians in the diaspora.

In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Ministry said it had not issued any directive to Ghana’s diplomatic missions in countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany to facilitate such an exercise.

According to the Ministry, it has also not granted approval to any entity for the purported arrangement and is unaware of any new government policy supporting the initiative.

“There is no record available at the Ministry pointing to this purported new policy direction,” the statement clarified.

The Ministry further stressed that there has been no formal engagement on the matter, no new policy brought to its attention, and no financial commitment to support such a programme.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Ministry reaffirmed that it remains committed to transparency and financial prudence in the delivery of public services.

The public and media houses have therefore been urged to disregard the viral claims suggesting that DVLA services are being extended abroad under the Ministry’s approval.
