Interior Minister Launches Automated Fire Safety Compliance System to Boost Public Safety

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak, has launched the Automated Fire Safety Compliance System (AFCAS), a digital platform aimed at transforming fire safety compliance across Ghana.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Mr Muntaka-Mubarak emphasised that fire safety is a critical national priority that safeguards lives, protects property, and strengthens investor confidence.

“Fire safety is not optional; it is a national necessity that protects lives and property while reinforcing investor confidence,” he stated.

He described AFCAS as a significant shift from manual and fragmented compliance processes to a modern, digital and standardised fire safety regime powered by technology.

According to the minister, the new system will enable the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to improve public engagement, streamline inspection processes, reduce turnaround times, and enhance overall service delivery to homes, businesses and public institutions.

Mr Muntaka-Mubarak noted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader digitalisation agenda aimed at easing the cost of doing business and guaranteeing the security of investments in the country.

He commended the leadership and personnel of the GNFS for their dedication and vision in implementing the project and urged property owners, regulatory bodies and the general public to support the effective rollout of the system.

The Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, underscored the transformative potential of AFCAS, stating that the platform would significantly improve service delivery, boost revenue generation and enhance client interaction.

She explained that prior to the introduction of AFCAS, fire safety compliance processes were largely manual, creating several operational challenges for both the Service and the public.

Madam Sarpong expressed confidence that the digital system would deliver far-reaching benefits, strengthening efficiency and transparency within the Fire Service while improving compliance standards nationwide.
