The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of new applications for selected categories of gold buying licences as part of comprehensive reforms aimed at strengthening and modernising Ghana’s gold trading sector.
In a press release dated February 16, 2026, the Board stated that the suspension affects applications for Tier 1 and Tier 2 Gold Buying Licences, as well as the Self-Financing Aggregator Licence. The directive takes effect immediately.
GoldBod explained that the decision forms part of a broader strategic review of the country’s gold buying framework, intended to enhance operational efficiency and reinforce regulatory oversight within the sector.
“The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of applications for specific categories of gold buying licences as part of a strategic reform process aimed at strengthening and modernising Ghana’s gold buying regime,” the statement said.
Despite the suspension, the Board clarified that applications for the Aggregator Licence remain open and will continue to be received and processed during the reform period.
GoldBod further assured stakeholders that applications submitted prior to the announcement will not be affected by the directive.
“GoldBod wishes to assure all stakeholders that applications already submitted prior to this announcement will continue to be processed,” the statement emphasised.
According to the Board, the ongoing reforms are designed to promote greater transparency, strengthen compliance mechanisms, and improve traceability across Ghana’s gold trading value chain. The measures are also expected to ensure that the country derives maximum national benefit from its gold resources.
GoldBod indicated that additional information regarding the revised licensing framework and other regulatory adjustments will be communicated to stakeholders in due course.
