Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared a new chapter for both the party and the nation, drawing inspiration from the Bible as he addressed the National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday.
Speaking to party members, clergy, and supporters, Dr. Bawumia referenced Psalm 118:22, saying: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This reminds us that setbacks are not the end, but opportunities for greater purpose and service.”
He urged Ghanaians to see beyond political divisions and to focus on the larger mission of nation-building. “This Thanksgiving service is not about personal ambition,” he said. “It is a moment to reflect, to pray, and to recommit ourselves to a higher cause — the cause of building a nation that is truly great and strong.”
Reflecting on the recently concluded party primaries, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of reconciliation and unity. “Let us forgive each other for the unpalatable things we may have said during this election cycle,” he stated. “Healing will not come from silence; it will come from acknowledging where we went too far and choosing to walk together as a family.”
The Vice President also highlighted the importance of discipline and hard work in preparing for the 2028 elections. “Victory will not be gifted to us; it must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia called on party members to rebuild trust and return to the values that built the party. “Let us put behind personal grudges, internal suspicions, and factional lines. Let us deepen our concentration on what binds us together and focus less on what divides us,” he stressed.
He concluded with a heartfelt prayer: “May God heal our party. May God heal our nation. May God grant us the wisdom and strength to serve Ghana with integrity, courage, and love.”
The service marked a moment of reflection, thanksgiving, and renewed commitment, signaling a hopeful beginning for the NPP and Ghana’s democratic journey.
