The Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has declared that the party’s path back to power in 2028 will require discipline, unity and sustained hard work, stressing that electoral success will not come automatically.
Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr. Bawumia stated emphatically: “Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned — constituency by constituency, household by household — with humility and purpose.”
The service, held to thank God for a peaceful and successful internal electoral process, brought together party executives, members, clergy and supporters from across the country.
Dr. Bawumia said the gathering was not about personal ambition but about recommitting to national service and party unity.
“Today’s Thanksgiving Service is not a celebration of personal ambition. For me, it is a moment of reflection, prayer and recommitment to a higher cause — the cause of contributing to the building of a nation that is truly great and strong,” he said.
Call for Unity and Forgiveness
Acknowledging the tensions that often accompany internal contests, Dr. Bawumia urged party faithful to forgive one another and move forward together.
“We have been through a grueling election cycle, one that had the potential to cause wounds and strain relationships. Elections can leave scars that may not show on the surface but can cut deep,” he noted.
He appealed directly to members, saying: “From the bottom of my heart, I want to ask all of us to forgive one another for some of the unpalatable things we may have said against each other during this election cycle.”
According to him, healing within the party would require honesty and a shared commitment to common values.
“Healing will not come from silence. It will come from speaking about what binds us together and working toward it as one family. We have more that unites us than divides us,” he said.
Reorganising for 2028
Dr. Bawumia announced that the party would soon embark on a nationwide Thank You Tour to appreciate members for their dedication and comportment during the internal processes.
He also revealed plans to reorganise party structures and refine policy proposals ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“We are moving swiftly to reorganize the party’s policy structures, fine-tune our alternative policy proposals and market them to the good people of Ghana in the shortest possible time,” he stated.
He urged members to put aside factionalism and internal suspicion. “Let us put behind us personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines. Let us rebuild trust among ourselves and return to the values that built this party — service, competence, respect for institutions and belief in the Ghanaian people.”
Ghana Above All
Dr. Bawumia stressed that national interest must take precedence over partisan considerations.
“Ghana is bigger than any political party. Our democracy must never be reduced to vengeance,” he said.
“There is serious work to be done — the kind of work that requires patience, listening, learning and showing up even when the applause is absent; the kind of work that places country before comfort and duty before ego.”
