Wontumi Pledges to Be ‘Working National Chairman’ as He Eyes NPP Top Job

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has intensified his campaign for the party’s National Chairman position, assuring members that he will be a “working national chairman” if given the mandate.

Addressing constituency organisers and their deputies in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, Chairman Wontumi argued that the NPP’s current political situation requires a leader who embodies the party’s core values and possesses the drive to reclaim power in the 2028 general elections.

“I stand before you to assure the nation through you that I am ready to be a working national chairman when given the mandate,” he stated.

“This election is not for the books but for those who are tried and tested as grassroots working men — someone who is highly popular and ready to work tirelessly for the party’s victory in 2028.”

The three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman maintained that the NPP must offer renewed hope to its members and Ghanaians, stressing that he is well prepared for the political battle ahead.

“What we can offer now to members of the party and Ghanaians in general is hope. I am built for the battle ahead,” he said while appealing to organisers to support his ambition.

Chairman Wontumi highlighted his extensive experience within the party, noting that his journey from a two-term constituency chairman to an unprecedented three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman has adequately prepared him for the national role.

He further emphasised his intention to focus on grassroots mobilisation if elected.

“As National Chairman, my work will be at the various constituencies. The General Secretary will take charge of the party headquarters, but my responsibility will be with the people to ensure we bring in every vote for the party ahead of the 2028 elections,” he explained.

Chairman Wontumi also urged party members to assess his leadership capabilities based on performance rather than academic qualifications.
“Don’t judge me based on my certificate but on my competency and what I can do for the total growth of the party,” he added.

Many of the organisers present reportedly expressed confidence in his leadership, describing him as a figure who understands grassroots party structures and remains accessible to party faithful.
