KNUST Student Dies After Falling From Off-Campus Hostel

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is mourning the death of a second-year student, Mr Ransford Amankwah Asomani, following a tragic incident at an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase.

In a statement released on Monday, February 9, 2026, the University said the deceased, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management, fell from the second floor of the hostel in the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026.

According to the statement, colleagues of the student swiftly transported him to the KNUST Hospital with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team. He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival despite efforts to save his life.

University authorities confirmed that the parents of the deceased have been duly informed of the incident. His body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.

Management of KNUST expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to the entire university community. The University extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late student.

Meanwhile, the KNUST Police, in collaboration with the University’s security services, have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The University assured the public that updates would be communicated as soon as investigations are concluded.

KNUST reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of all students and staff, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a safe learning environment both on and off campus.
