The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as its Parliamentary Candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The decision follows extensive consultations by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders aimed at presenting a consensus candidate with strong electoral prospects in the constituency.
As part of the process, the NEC constituted a Candidate Search Committee chaired by a former General Secretary of the party, John Boadu. After engaging a broad spectrum of stakeholders within the Ayawaso East Constituency and the Greater Accra Region, the committee unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif as the most suitable candidate for the contest.
Baba Ali Yussif currently serves as the Constituency Secretary of the NPP in Ayawaso East.
Based on the committee’s report, the party on Sunday, February 8, 2026, convened an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting alongside a Delegates Conference in the constituency. At the meeting, delegates unanimously acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the by-election.
In a statement signed by the NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party called on its members, supporters, and sympathizers to unite behind the candidate to secure victory in the upcoming polls.
The party further appealed to residents of Ayawaso East to vote massively for Baba Ali Yussif, describing him as a candidate capable of restoring hope, effective representation, and prosperity to the constituency.
The Ayawaso East by-election is expected to be keenly contested, with political parties intensifying preparations ahead of the March 3 vote.
