NPP Primaries: Naa Torshie Explains Move from Bawumia to Agyapong

Former Tema West MP and ex-Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has explained her decision to shift support from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Kennedy Ohene Agyapong in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2026 presidential primary.

Speaking to journalists after casting her vote, Naa Torshie said her decision was influenced by the changing political landscape and the party’s performance in government.

“Each election presents a different scenario. Election 2024 is not the same as Election 2028, so you don’t have to vote for the same person. Circumstances change, personalities evolve, and the performance of the party in power guides you on which candidate is best suited to lead us in 2028. I took all of that into consideration and chose Ken,” she stated.

The former MP stressed that her choice reflects what she believes is in the best interest of the NPP as it prepares for the 2028 general election, signaling a strategic move in the party’s internal politics.

Her switch adds to the evolving dynamics of the NPP’s flagbearership race, which has seen a number of high-profile endorsements change as delegates weigh their options ahead of the party’s primaries.
