The Ghana Police Service has announced that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled to take place nationwide on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
In a statement issued ahead of the exercise, the Police said adequate personnel have been deployed to all designated voting centres, collation points, and surrounding areas across the country to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
According to the Service, the security measures are aimed at safeguarding delegates, party officials, election officials, observers, and members of the general public, as well as protecting property before, during, and after the primaries.
The Police noted that visibility patrols—both mobile and static—will be intensified throughout the period, while rapid response teams have been strategically positioned to deal swiftly with any security situation that may arise. Access control measures will also be enforced at voting venues to maintain law and order.
The Ghana Police Service has appealed to party supporters and the general public to cooperate fully with security personnel, strictly adhere to the rules governing the primaries, and conduct themselves in a peaceful and lawful manner.
Members of the public have also been encouraged to report any suspicious activity or security concerns to officers on duty, at the nearest police station, or through the emergency numbers 191 or 112.
The Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property and maintaining peace and security throughout the country.
