Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Birmingham Chapter, Prince Kwadwo Osei, popularly known as One in Town, has outlined the reasons why he believes former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia deserves another opportunity to lead the New Patriotic Party into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in his personal capacity, Prince Kwadwo Osei said his position is driven by conviction, party tradition, and a careful assessment of the political circumstances surrounding the 2024 elections.
“I am speaking purely on my own behalf, based on my conviction, understanding, and assessment of our journey as a party,” he said. “For me, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia remains our best chance to regain power in 2028.”
According to him, the NPP has a strong history of standing by leaders it believes in, citing former Presidents J.A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as examples of leaders who were given second chances and went on to deliver for the party.
“As a party, we once believed in President Kufuor and later in President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by giving them the opportunity to return. I believe it is only fair that we extend the same trust to Dr. Bawumia,” Prince Kwadwo Osei explained.
Addressing concerns raised after the 2024 general elections, the NPP Birmingham Chairman cautioned against making hasty decisions or placing undue blame on the Vice President.
“Looking at all the issues surrounding the 2024 elections, it would be very disingenuous to conclude that Dr. Bawumia must be replaced,” he stated. “Inasmuch as other candidates may be fit, I strongly believe Dr. Bawumia supersedes all others by every fair measure we use to judge leadership.”
Prince Kwadwo Osei further emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership aligns with the founding principles of the NPP, particularly inclusivity and national unity.
“The NPP is a party that transcends religion, ethnicity, and boundaries. It is built on inclusivity and diversity, and Dr. Bawumia has consistently demonstrated these values since he came into the limelight of the party,” he said.
He also highlighted what he described as Dr. Bawumia’s commitment, resilience, and performance within the party and government.
“From my observation and experience, Dr. Bawumia has done everything right under the circumstances, and he continues to represent the ‘I can do’ spirit of the NPP,” he added.
Prince Kwadwo Osei concluded with an appeal to party delegates, particularly those in the United Kingdom, to rally behind the Vice President once again.
“I urge delegates to trust Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with their votes once again. The possibility train has not grounded. We must move forward, not backward, and I am confident he will deliver,” he concluded.
